Why do we teach Music?
At Great Corby School and Nursery, we believe that music enables children to Explore, Discover and Learn about themselves, others and the world around them. Music is a powerful form of expression that brings people together, builds confidence and creates lasting memories.
We want every child to feel that they are musical. Through singing, listening, performing, composing and playing instruments, children develop creativity, confidence and a lifelong appreciation of music. By exploring music from different cultures, traditions and periods in history, children learn to respect and celebrate the rich diversity of the world around them.
Explore
Children explore music through singing, listening, movement, playing instruments and creative experimentation. They are encouraged to participate with confidence, curiosity and enthusiasm, developing a love of music from their earliest years.
Discover
Children discover how music can communicate feelings, tell stories and bring communities together. They learn about a wide range of musical styles, traditions and musicians, developing an appreciation of music from around the world.
Learn
Children learn the skills, knowledge and vocabulary needed to become confident performers, composers and listeners. Through performing, composing and reflecting on music, they develop their musical understanding and grow in confidence as musicians.
