At Great Corby School and Nursery, we believe that learning a language enables children to Explore, Discover and Learn about the wider world. Through learning French, children develop curiosity about different languages, cultures and ways of life, whilst building confidence in their ability to communicate with others.
We want our children to develop a love of language learning and an appreciation of different cultures. By learning French, children gain valuable communication skills, develop their understanding of language and become increasingly prepared for life in a diverse and connected world.
As a side note, French is one of the modern foreign languages available at our feeder school, William Howard.

Explore

Children explore the French language through songs, stories, games, conversations and practical activities. They develop confidence in listening to and speaking a new language whilst becoming curious about different cultures and traditions.

Discover

Children discover similarities and differences between French and English, building an understanding of how languages work and how people communicate across the world.

Learn

Children learn vocabulary, pronunciation and language structures which enable them to listen, speak, read and write in French with increasing confidence. They develop the skills needed to continue learning languages beyond primary school.
